PlayStation To Stop Making Games In January 2028

SAN MATEO, CA—In a move that has generated significant backlash from gamers across the world, Sony announced Thursday that it would stop releasing new video games for the PlayStation platform in January 2028, citing a shift in consumer preferences for more lackluster gaming experiences. "As consumer preferences and the broader entertainment industry continue to shift away from entertainment to misery, production for all new games releasing on PlayStation consoles will be discontinued starting January 2028," the company said on its official blog typed in gamer tears. "This is a natural direction for Sony Interactive Entertainment to adapt to consumer trends as the general preference for gaming significantly outpaces the fucks we give. This transition will enable us to align more closely with how most leadership here at PlayStation prefer to access and play games today, which is to say: never." Gamers and PlayStation fans rebuked the announcement swiftly, with many furious at the prospect of either having to sell their kidneys in order to afford a GPU and the RAM required to build a gaming PC, or in what many described on forums and social media as the "ultimate humiliation," switching over to XBOX. At press time, Sony announced that the long-rumoured PlayStation 6 would be released as a hollowed-out black shell filled with concrete starting at $1,099.
