CUPERTINO, CA—Causing immense shock among millions of users Wednesday, new screenshots leaked online from an early test build of macOS 28, referred to internally by Apple as "macOS Alcatraz," shows the operating system using a GNOME desktop environment.

"At Apple, we are constantly pushing the boundaries of what Mac can do, and how many ports we can remove in the process," said Chief of Software Engineering Craig Federighi in an interview shortly following the leak. "We're constantly innovating our approach to software, and macOS is a prime example in where we see great potential to give users more headaches in new ways, as we've found the usual shtick of making Mac repairs insanely difficult and expensive become less effective. So, the next logical move for us is to replace macOS Alcatraz's shell with GNOME for kicks."

When reached out to for a statement via his iCloud email, Apple CEO Tim Cook refused to comment, stating that he had "basically checked out" and intended to "leave this shitshow for John Ternus to mop up." Meanwhile, enthusiasts who were able to track down a copy of macOS Alcatraz off the dark web found that the upcoming version was incredibly unreliable, with experts attributing the frequent crashes to the fact the new GNOME-powered macOS allowed users the freedom to use their device as they pleased.

"It seems that Apple has surrendered and accepted that the penguin is the best software experience you can gift a computer.
