Katy Perry Dead At 41 Following Secret Battle With Number One Hit Deficiency
MONTECITO, CA—Leaving fans devastated Saturday, a representative for pop star Katy Perry announced that she was pronounced dead at the age of 41 following a lengthy secret battle with number one hit deficiency, also known as NOHD.
"It is with incredible sadness in our hearts that we must announce that Katy Perry has passed away in the early hours of Saturday morning," began a statement posted to the singers social media by her estate. "Katherine had been the light of our life, and has brought so much joy to the world through her music. She has been so strong for fighting terminal NOHD. She's been suffering from the condition for over a decade, releasing as much music as she could with the hope that she could top the Billboard Hot 100 again and get better. She was a fighter until the very end."
Number one hit deficiency, or NOHD for short, is an autoimmune condition that specifically targets hit-making musicians who fail to top the Billboard Hot 100 after having previously done so. The more number ones an artist accumulates, the worse the condition can become once the hits stop coming. Symptoms of NOHD include headaches, nausea, fevers, aches, fatigue, and an empty void in ones soul. Late stage and terminal cases can result in pneumonia, vomiting blood, constipation, and death due to multiple organ failure. One of the most infamous characteristics of NOHD is how it creates an impulse for patients to release any and all songs or albums, regardless of quality, in the hope of achieving another number 1 to relieve themselves of the ailment.
"I'm gonna miss her a lot, I'm so shocked. She had at least one more album I wouldn't listen to in her," said Elizabeth Pearce, a self-described super fan of the "Firework" singer. "I mean, I haven't heard a single song from her since ‘Chained To The Rhythm,’ unless you include that ‘WOMAN'S WORLD’ song that everyone made fun of for like five minutes. But yeah, she was pretty cool. Sad that she was suffering from that NOHD thing, yikes. I guessed that explains why she went on that Jeff Bezos rocket, she was crying out for help."
At press time, Ms. Perry's partner, former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, said he would ask incumbent Prime Minister Mark Carney to rename the province of Prince Edward Island to "Princess Perry Island" to honour her legacy.
