Cities Burn As LGBTQ+ Community Celebrate Wrath Month
PARIS, FRANCE—As the world bid farewell to yet another Pride Month, cities began to burn Wednesday as LGBTQ+ people across the globe began the yearly celebrations of the follow-up festivities known as Wrath Month.
Wrath Month, which was first established a year after the first pride marches were held in the U.S. in June 1970, is a month-long observance of retribution and systematic rioting designed to give heterosexual, cisgender and bigoted dorks a taste of their own fucking medicine. It is celebrated throughout the entirety of July, immediately following up Pride Month, which takes place in June. Historically, Wrath Months have seen LGBTQ+ individuals from across the globe burn down cities in a blaze of queer-coded glory.
As of July 1, cities around the world, from Paris, Brussels, Los Angeles, London, Amsterdam, Bangkok, Wellington, Tokyo, Seoul, Oslo, Abuja, Brasilia, Havana, Tehran, Cape Town, Edinburgh, Jakarta, Moscow, New Delhi, Pyongyang, Ankara, Berlin, Canberra, Buenos Aires, Cairo, Narnia, Doha, Atlantis, Babylon, Pompeii, and most understandably, Birmingham, were engulfed in roaring rainbow flames as queer people took to the streets to celebrate the beginning of Wrath Month. Further investigative reports utilising the TARDIS revealed that alternate dimensions of our world had cities burning in the name of gayness, including Yrawood, Tram, Uvlelvine, Zing, Flaydence, Onipolis, Ploiffield, Idotol, and most shockingly, Penisville.
"This year's Wrath Month is proving to be exceptionally vengeful," said Dr. Nancy Palmer, a leading expert of Gayonomics at the University of Oxford. "While previous Wrath Month's have ended with cities being slayed and snatched, or even left in a state looking like a unicorn vomited everywhere, this year has already seen incredibly high attendance for events like ‘Give a Conversion Therapist Testicular Torsion’ or ‘Torch a Transvesigator,’ showing a roughly 28% uptick from previous years." Dr. Palmer was unable to attribute a factor for why Wrath Month participation had drastically spiked, but did note that the erosion of basic human dignity for LGBTQ+ people in many nations as a contributing factor.
As Wrath Month ripped through cities across every continent, global brands rushed to get in on the festivities. Corporate titans such as Coca-Cola, Google, Heinz, LEGO, McDonald's, Nike, Toyota, Disney, PlayStation, KFC, Spotify, J.P. Morgan, and the SCP Foundation have quickly pivoted from rainbow-coloured profile pictures to ones depicting their logos placed on pikes and burning to a crisp. Meanwhile, retail giants like Walmart, Aldi, Amazon, Tesco, Costco, and Woolworths began selling Wrath Month themed merchandise, featuring rainbow grenades, pitchforks coloured the distinct green of Charli XCX's 2024 album "BRAT," estrogen tranquilliser darts, and t-shirts with slogans like: "I Prefer Cooking, But Sometimes Eating Out With My Girls And Setting My Local Suburb Ablaze Is Fun."
"Oh, so when the gays riots it's ‘brave,‘ but when we storm the Capitol it's an ‘attack on democracy?’" fumed U.S. conservative pundit and closeted homosexual Tom Roberts. "I mean, really? I can't call a trans person delusional or accuse them of grooming kids because that's ‘transphobic,’ but they're allowed to partake in this Wrath Month nonsense? What are they even angry about? I simply can't fathom a single reason for why they would want to punch me in the face." Mr. Roberts was later discovered by reporters crying on the pavement after a gay man called him a "dumbass" for insinuating the man drove a van with "free candy" written on it.
Many countries sanction official Wrath Month events, such as in London, where the UK capital has conveniently installed highly-flammable cladding, allowing for Wrath Month participants to paint the London skies with thick smog and ash during "Flame On" events that are hosted throughout every borough. There are unofficial festivities in other nations, such as Paris, where French people riot and burn the city of love into an all-consuming inferno, this however is mostly indistinguishable from the average Tuesday, where riots occur in the French capital at a similar frequency. Meanwhile, in nations where homosexuality is legally prohibited, cities like the Iranian capital of Tehran instead observe Wrath Years, with festivities hard to separate from routine government crackdowns on protests and U.S.-Israeli bombing campaigns.
Detractors of Wrath Month, most notably Elon Musk, have argued that the event is "pointless" and irrelevant in the modern world. "As we all know, I am a very well-adjusted man who has been deeply consistent on my views on climate change," said the world's richest man on his X/Twitter profile. "First off, Wrath Month causes insane amounts of emissions. It's crazy! And for what? Nothing! After conducting some rigorous, peer-reviewed research with Joe Rogan at the Comedy Mothership, we concluded that Wrath Month festivities emit 0.0000000001% of the carbon footprint created by my SpaceX rocket launches. Honestly, it's disgusting!"
Following the commencement of Wrath Month in Washington D.C., U.S. President Donald Trump was immediately rushed to the bunker beneath the White House as the newly installed "Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Rapid-Response Early-Warning System 3000" bathed the White House in a cacophony of blaring sirens. The system, designed to alert the Secret Service to the presence of any LGBTQ+ individuals within a 100-foot radius, sounded throughout the day. Later reports confirmed that even more alarms rang out in the West Wing when a woman of legal age was detected to be in the vicinity of the president, causing the executive office to go into lockdown.
At press time, reports from Canada on July 1 indicted it remained the only country on Earth not currently engulfed in flames. Canadian government officials confirmed that the LGBTQ+ community had graciously agreed to postpone Wrath Month celebrations until July 2 in respect of it being Canada Day.
